The following are different categories where the different Kashrus Organizations have different opinion as far as Pesach is concerned…
KASHERING (Plastic, Formica, Epoxied Granite)
The O/U says to ask your Rabbi if these materials can be Kashered.
The Star-K says the CANNOT be Kashered.
The cRc says they CAN be Kashered
The O/K says they can be Kashered if needed (bedieved) but lechatchila, better not to.
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL:
The O/U says that ALL O/U Extra Virgin Olive Oil is okay for Pesach use (even without special Pesach Hashgacha)
The Star-K says only with Pesach Hashgacha or certain brands under their Hashgacha even without Pesach Hashgacha: (Aldahra Morocco Factories, C.H.O., Member’s Selection, Pompeian)
The cRc agrees with the O/U
COCONUT OIL:
All O/U certified Virgin Coconut is acceptable
Star-K says Kirkland brand Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is acceptable
WHITE SUGAR:
The O/U says select brands only (i.e. Kirkland, Trader Joe’s, 365 Whole Foods)
The Star-K says all white beet or cane Sugar is okay for Pesach use.
The cRc says white cane Sugar can be used on Pesach with no Pesach Hashgacha needed.
WATER, SELTZER, SPARKLING WATER:
The OU says all are acceptable
the Star-K says they can be used without citrates in the ingredients
The cRc says they need a KFP symbol on the package
RAW POULTRY AND MEAT:
The Star-K says only with KFP on the label
The O/U says it must be factory packed (not re-packed)
The cRc agrees with the O/U
RAW FROZEN FISH:
The O/U says to wash the fish before Pesach
The Star-K says it should have a KFP (and if not, wash it)
The cRc agrees with the Star-K
COFFEE FILTERS:
The cRc says all are acceptable
The O/U says all paper is acceptable
COCOA POWDER:
The O/U says Hershey’s is acceptable
the cRc says ALL U.S. pure Cocoa is acceptable
The Star-K agrees with the cRc. Also check machinery to be sure they are not producing any chometz on it.
SELTZER – UNFLAVORED:
The cRc says it needs a KFP on the label.
The O/U says all are acceptable
The Star-K agrees with the O/U
HAND SANITIZERS:
The Star-K says not with Ethenol/Ethyl Alcohol
The O/U says all Hand Sanitizers are acceptable
The cRc agrees with the O/U
INSTANT COFFEE:
The cRc says ONLY with a KFP on the label.
The O/U agrees with the cRc.
WATER (WITH MINERALS OR FLUORIDE ADDED):
O/U policies says it needs Hashgacha for Pesach, other than Desani and Glaceau Smart Water.
cRc says it needs Hashgacha for Pesach.
Star-K says it is acceptable for Pesach without Hashgacha
PERFUMES:
cRc says all perfumes produced in the U.S.A. are acceptable
O/U says ALL perfumes and deodorants are acceptable
Star-K says only dry powder.
BABY WIPES:
cRc says they are acceptable without a KFP
O/U agrees with cRc
Star-K says they are acceptable only without alcohol
PAPER TOWELS:
O/U says all are acceptable with no restrictions
Star-K says all are acceptable but the first and last sheets on the roll should NOT be used directly with (touching) food
TUMS:
cRc says they are not acceptable this year for Pesach
Rabbi Bess says Tums Asst Fruit (160 ct.) are Kitniyos, Tums Ex Asst Berries (72 Ct.) are Kitniyos, Tums Regular Strength Asst Fruit (150 Ct.) are Kitniyos and Tums Sugar-Free (80 Ct.) are Kitniyos.
